From the beginning, LA punk band the Circle Jerks were rooted in controversy. Formed by ex members of Black Flag and Red Cross (now Redd Kross) in late 1979, the band came to encapsulate the image, sound and energy of California Hardcore Punk. Filmmaker David Markey (1991: The Year Punk Broke, The Slog Movie) mixes in-depth interviews, rare live footage and historical perspective to illustrate the story of one of the most influential bands in the American underground. My Career as a Jerk follows the band from their early days and classic debut to navigating the independent label and touring scene of the 80s to the addictions, fights and injuries that forced their break up. Of course the story doesn't quite end there.

Seminal punk band X-ray Spex release a special live concert film recorded at 2008’s sell-out concert at the Roundhouse through new Future Noise Music imprint Year Zero. The first X-ray Spex live outing since 1979, this performance of their classic album Germ Free Adolescents saw singer Poly Styrene and bassist Paul Dean joined by friends Sid Truelove (anarcho-punk drummer with Rubella Ballet and Flux of Pink Indians), Mark Saxby (former guitarist with Arnold) and Flash (saxophone player, formerly with Rip Rig & Panic, Jah Wobble, Don Cherry and the Slits) at London’s Roundhouse on September 6th 2008 in front of 3,000 raucous fans. In 1976 X-ray Spex were formed by Poly Styrene placing an ad in NME and Melody Maker for 'Young Punx Who Want To Stick It Together'.
For a generation sifting through the wreckage left by punk rock, X-ray Spex truly turned our world day-glo. The combination of tough, razor sharp riffs, kooky sax lines and Poly Styrene’s wonderful voice and incisive lyrics tearing into plastic consumerist society were perfect. Their 1978/79 stay was all too brief - a handful of memorable singles: debut Oh Bondage Up Yours! And the hits The Day The World Turned Day-Glo, Germ Free Adolescents and Highly Inflammable. Versions of all these songs are featured here, alongside previously unreleased new track Bloody War. X-ray Spex transcended punk, influencing a whole new scene of indie kids and post-Riot Grrrl rockers like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Gossip.
The band’s innate genius and brilliant song writing makes them as relevant now as they were then. They are that rarest of things, a group that has never dated.

This Minneapolis quartet took a teenage-punk attitude, threw it in a blender with classic and pop rock, and then poured it into a Middle American pint glass. Gorman Bechard's remarkable history of the 'Mats takes us from their first show as the Impediments to their 1991 onstage breakup in Chicago, and everywhere in between. Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols (or simply Never Mind The Bollocks) is the only studio album by the highly influential and controversial English punk rock band The Sex Pistols. Fans and critics alike generally regard it as an extremely important album in the history of rock music, citing the lasting influence it has had on subsequent punk rock musicians, as well as other musical genres that were influenced by such punk rock artists.
In 2003, Rolling Stone rated it forty-first on their list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The album was released on 27 October 1977 through Virgin Records amid controversy arising from the use of the coarse slang word (in British English) 'bollocks' in its title. Older versions of most of the album's songs also appeared on a bootleg album called Spunk, which consists of demo recordings the band had made during 1976 and January 1977, and which was released shortly before Never Mind The Bollocks.
Before New Zealander Russell Crowe became an Oscar-winning Hollywood heavyweight, he was a guy in a band writing songs about his parents, his politics and his sweetheart (and now wife), Danielle. Today, Crowe continues his first passion (he wrote his first song at age 6) with the band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, or TOFOG - the name for a sound effect that Crowe heard while working on the set of the 1995 film, Virtuosity. Together since the late '80's Crowe and his band mates give a performance that features the bravado-stripped, engaging and garrulous Crowe along with the rocking, carefree, and guitar infused Grunts. Crowe's baritone is deep as he sings songs written for his wife 'Inside Your Eyes,' along with the song 'Swallow My Gift' a tune he wrote in response to critics who over-scrutinize his music. The band features other songs off their recent album Other Ways of Speaking including 'Never Be Alone Again,' 'What's Her Name?' And 'Charlie's Song.'
Crowe's cover of 'Ring of Fire' reveals the rough-edge rock that the band builds from while also hinting at their blues, folk and pop influences. The highlight of the evening comes in the form of an onstage duet with country-pop icon Kris Kristofferson. TOFOG and Crowe cover the hits 'Me and Bobby McGee,' originally sung by Janis Joplin, and Kris' 'Sunday Morning Coming Down,' recorded by Johnny Cash. On his own, Kristofferson performs hits that highlight his philosophical lyricism and poignant arrangements including 'The Circle,' 'A Moment of Forever' and 'Help Me Make It Through The Night.'
