I just found an easy fix from a guy on line with a blog. He's at curtiscarmichael.com He laid it out and it worked perfectly. Basically what you do is go to HP's website and download the drivers for Windows XP. You'll want to download 'HP LaserJet 1000 Printing Software Solution'. After the download completes: Find the files that you just extracted (c:/lj1488/) and right click on the setup.exe file.

Select: Properties Click on: Compatibility Check the box: 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' check box. Select: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) Click: OK and run that file.

You may get a few error box windows and you may have to click on the 'Skip' button when asked to Power up your printer or connect the USB cord. Just keep going past these error boxes. It worked like a champ for me and I'm a bit of a dolt!

Again, the credit goes to Curtis Carmichael.
