Denied another national championship on the field less than a month earlier, Alabama could not be stopped from seizing another title on the recruiting trail. For the second straight year and the third time in the last four seasons, the Crimson Tide finish National Signing Day with the top recruiting class in the country, according to Scout.com. Coach Nick Saban and his staff finished strong on signing day, landing commitments from five-star Devonta Smith and highly touted four-stars LaBryan Ray and Henry Ruggs, among others.
Those pledges joined a group of 12 prospects who enrolled early at Alabama, including No. 1 overall recruit Najee Harris. In a remarkable feat even by the Crimson Tide’s lofty standards, four-star defensive end Jarez Parks, the No. 68 overall recruit in the class of 2017, appears poised to take a grayshirt at Alabama due to a lack of remaining scholarships rather than accept a scholarship at another school.
Syracuse, N.Y. Syracuse football signed 15 members of its 2018 recruiting class on Wednesday, the opening of the three-day early signing period that runs through Friday. The majority of the class is in the fold, but there is room to add more players.

Those who don't sign this week can do so come the signing period that starts the first Wednesday in February. Until then, programs will do a roster reset of sorts and evaluate which areas they need to focus on before February and also get a jump on taking a look at the 2019 and 2020 classes. With most of the recruiting activity over with following Wednesday's big flurry, it's a good time to see where SU stands in the national and ACC recruiting rankings. When you woke up Thursday morning, the 2018 class was ranked No. 45 in the nation and eighth in the ACC, according to 247Sports.com. That would be the highest ranking since recruiting became something of a national following to the extent it is today. By commonly used metrics, it is on pace to be the highest-ranked class in at least a decade.
Here are the ACC rankings for this year, as of Thursday. Miami (Fla.) 2. Virginia Tech 4. North Carolina State 5.
